Oto Island Oto Island (大戸島 - Ôtojima), a fictitious southern Japanese fishing village, is the birthplace of the Japanese movie monster, Godzilla. In the days of old, when the fishing was poor (obviously because Godzilla fed on sea animals), the villagers sacrificed young virgins to appease Godzilla's hunger.
