The product of absorbed dose in tissue multiplied by a quality factor, and then sometimes multiplied by other necessary modifying factors at the location of interest. It is expressed numerically in rems or sieverts (see 10 CFR 20.1003). (references)

The product of the absorbed dose from ionizing radiation and such factors as account for biological differences due to the type of radiation and its distribution in the body in the body. (references)
