Daniel J. Bernstein is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a mathematician, a cryptologist, and a programmer, noted as the author of the computer software qmail and djbdns. He also brought, and later represented himself (although he has no formal training as a lawyer) in the seminal court case Bernstein v. United States, which got software declared protected speech and national restrictions on encryption software overturned.
