Since the 1920s, Culver City has been a major center for motion picture and later television production, in part because it was the home of Columbia (now Sony) Studios.
The city is surrounded by the Los Angeles neighborhoods of
Mar Vista, West Los Angeles, Palms and Beverlywood on the north, Westchester on the south and southwest Los Angeles on the east, with the neighborhoods of Venice and Marina Del Rey to the west.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.3 km² (5.1 mi²). 13.2 km² (5.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.History
