BYLAND ABBEY
Specialty Definition: Byland Abbey
(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)
Byland Abbey in Yorkshire was founded by the Cistercian order in 1177. It was dissolved during the reign of King Henry VIII of England, but impressive remains can still be seen, in the care of English Heritage. An interesting feature is the preservation of some of the brightly-coloured medieval floor tiles.
