Active immunizing agent; a viable attenuated strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, var. bovis which confers immunity to mycobacterial infections; used also in immunotherapy of neoplasms due to its stimulation of antibodies and non-specific immunity. (references)

Medicine

Vaccine produced from an avirulent strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is used in human medicine to give immunity against tuberculosis, but it does not completely prevent infection in cattle or captive exotic animals; moreover, vaccinated animals react to the tuberculin test.
