B-36

Specialty Definition: Convair B-36

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" was an American bomber aircraft built between the late 1940s and the early 1950s, and used during that same time period.

The B-36 aircraft was powered by 6 piston engine propellers in a trailing-edge mounting (the propellers were aft of the wing).

There were 383 planes built. The company's name, 'Convair', is short for Consolidated Vultee of Fort Worth, Texas.

The aircraft were the last large piston-engined bombers built as part of world war II. The subsequent arms race that culminated in many fast jet turbine driven bombers of the cold war eliminated them from effective service by the mid-1950s.
