The municipality Bærum in the county of Akershus, Norway, has 101,497 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002. Sandvika is the centre of Bærum.Located just to the west of the capital Oslo, Bærum is in many respects regarded as a suburb of this city. Many technology oriented companies are located at Lysaker and Fornebu.
Many people look at Bærum as a place only with rich people, playing golf, and lives in big houses with enormous fortunes. Someone are, but not all. Bærum has everything from nerds to farmers, slalom runners to teachers. Bærum also has alot of history, for example the "Bærums Jernverk" founded in the 1700s more information at this Lommedalen link
A local football team, Stabæk I.F, plays in the Norwegian premier league (2003).
