Akron Township is a township located in Big Stone County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 196.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 138.0 km² (53.3 mi²). 125.9 km² (48.6 mi²) of it is land and 12.1 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.78% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 196 people, 79 households, and 60 families residing in the township. The population density is 1.6/km² (4.0/mi²). There are 98 housing units at an average density of 0.8/km² (2.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.98% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 79 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.7% are married couples living together, 2.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.8% are non-families. 20.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.87.
