Adwolf is a town located in Smyth County, Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,457.

Geography


Adwolf is located at 36°47'1" North, 81°35'21" West (36.783641, -81.589270)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.3 km² (7.8 mi²). 20.3 km² (7.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,457 people, 587 households, and 459 families residing in the town. The population density is 71.7/km² (185.6/mi²). There are 617 housing units at an average density of 30.3/km² (78.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.22% White, 0.14% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 587 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8% are non-families. 18.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.79. In the town the population is spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.6 males. The median income for a household in the town is $37,117, and the median income for a family is $42,941. Males have a median income of $29,861 versus $20,038 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,880. 7.8% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.9% are under the age of 18 and 4.5% are 65 or older.
