Perry is an alcoholic beverage made from pear juice. It is similar to cider, in that it is made using a similar process and often has a similar alcoholic content. A branded perry known as Babycham, marketed principally as a woman's drink and sold in miniature Champagne-style bottles, was once popular but has now become unfashionable. There are also several places by the name of Perry: Other places are named Perryville. There is also Perry Hall, Maryland.

Perry is a town located in Wyoming County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 6,654.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 94.8 km² (36.6 mi²). 94.2 km² (36.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 6,654 people, 1,905 households, and 1,339 families residing in the town. The population density is 70.6/km² (182.9/mi²). There are 2,084 housing units at an average density of 22.1 persons/km² (57.3 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 79.23% White, 15.75% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.31% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 8.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,905 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% are married couples living together, 12.0% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 29.7% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.00. In the town the population is spread out with 19.4% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 40.1% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 168.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 187.6 males. The median income for a household in the town is $39,455, and the median income for a family is $44,743. Males have a median income of $30,880 versus $21,674 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,441. 8.7% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.6% are under the age of 18 and 1.7% are 65 or older.

Perry is a village located in Wyoming County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,945.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.4 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.64% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 3,945 people, 1,560 households, and 1,051 families residing in the village. The population density is 674.0/km² (1,744.8/mi²). There are 1,764 housing units at an average density of 301.4 persons/km² (780.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.41% White, 0.74% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 1.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,560 households out of which 33.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.1% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 32.6% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.97. In the village the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.0 males. The median income for a household in the village is $35,596, and the median income for a family is $41,090. Males have a median income of $31,845 versus $21,486 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,794. 8.7% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.8% are under the age of 18 and 2.6% are 65 or older.
